Mumbai, also known as the City of Dreams, has been buzzing with excitement and glamour recently thanks to the Ambanis. The opening of the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) was a grand affair that attracted some of the biggest stars from both India and abroad.
Day 2 of the event was particularly eventful, with Varun Dhawan’s performance stealing the show. However, his actions during the performance generated a lot of criticism from netizens, particularly in regards to his interaction with supermodel Gigi Hadid.
Gigi Hadid made a stunning entrance in a heavily embroidered saree by Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, paired with a jeweled blouse inspired by South Indian jewelry. Varun Dhawan’s performance was equally impressive, with the video clip showing him wearing a sparkling vest paired with black pants that had a line of mirror work on the sides.
Varun Dhawan brought Gigi Hadid up on stage during his performance, lifted her, gave her a swirl, and kissed her on the cheek before guiding her down the flight of stairs. Although this was supposed to be a lighthearted and amusing incident, it received a lot of negative feedback online, with many people accusing Varun of acting inappropriately and disrespectfully towards Gigi.

However, Varun Dhawan later clarified on Twitter that the interaction with Gigi Hadid was planned and that he did not force her to come on stage. He addressed the criticism by saying, “I guess today you woke up and decided to be woke. So lemme burst ur bubble and tell u it was planned for her to be on stage so find a new Twitter cause to vent about rather than going out and doing something about things. Good morning.”
