Jennifer Mistry Bansiwal, who played Mrs. Roshan Sodhi in the television series Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (TMKOC), accused the program’s producers of sexual harassment on Thursday. One of the defendants is TMKOC project leader Sohil Ramani. We spoke with Sohil Ramani for an exclusive report to get his perspective on the situation.
Jennifer Mistry revealed that she quit the show earlier in March and was sexually assaulted by the makers of the show. In response to her allegations, Sohil Ramani said that her accusation is a fabrication of lies. According to Ramani, her contract was terminated by the production house, and they removed her from the show three months ago. He further added that Mistry is doing it for cheap publicity.
Ramani’s Perspective
Sohil Ramani clarifies Mistry’s behaviour on the set. He said, “She has been working with us for 15 years, and shooting mein bohot saare utar chadhav hote hai. We have ignored her characteristics such as creating rifts among others, coming two hours late for the shoot, and creating misunderstandings. We have a lot of evidence against her.”
Ramani denies Mistry’s accusations of sexual harassment and narrates a different incident. He said that on March 4, Mistry was “asked to get off the sets four times by Sohil” after she was leaving the set early, despite taking prior permission. Mistry added that she was “subjected to humiliation and insult”. Ramani replied, “That is wrong. She had taken permission to leave early by 2 pm, but then on that day, she wanted to leave sooner. I had changed our entire schedule for her. She is telling lies.”
Ramani also said that the production house has not cleared Mistry’s dues, since they were looking for an answer from Mistry. “We had shared an email with her asking her for the reasons why she did what she did. We have suffered a lot of loss because of her,” he added.
Mistry’s Perspective
In an interview with an entertainment portal, Mistry revealed that she has filed a sexual harassment case against Ramani and show producer Asit Modi. Ramani, who says he is hurt by these allegations, said, “We have a committee of women, why did she never complain to the committee? All of us have never even entered a female artist’s makeup room. She is playing the woman card.”
Mistry couldn’t be reached for comment, and Modi did not reply to our calls. However, in a statement, Modi said, “We will take legal action as she is trying to defame me and the show both. Since we terminated her services, she is making these baseless allegations.”
