Shakira, the Colombian singer, and songwriter, has reportedly left her longtime home in Barcelona after being served an eviction notice by her former partner Gerard Pique’s father. According to aceshowbiz.com, the “Whenever, Wherever” hitmaker and her children Milan and Sasha are moving to Miami.
Reports in Spanish media suggest that Shakira and her parents were asked to leave the mansion in Esplugues de Llobregat, where she has been living since her split from the ex-footballer last year, or face a compensation payment. The demand is said to have been made by email and signed by Joan, who is thought to be the sole director of his son’s holding company, Kerad Holding.
The same house is where Shakira is said to have set up a witch doll on her balcony, facing her mother-in-law’s home. El Periodico and La Vanguardia both reported in March that the singer had until this month to leave the property.
In an emotional Instagram statement posted in both English and Spanish, Shakira announced her departure from Barcelona, saying that she had settled there to give her children stability. She also thanked her Spanish audience for their love and loyalty.
“Today we start a new chapter in the pursuit of their happiness,” she wrote. “Thank you to everyone who surfed alongside me so many waves there in Barcelona, the city where I learned that friendship is certainly longer than love. Thank you to everyone who has been there to cheer me up, dried my tears, inspired me, and made me grow. For you, just a see you later, and as my father said so many times, see you around the curves!”
