From a Small Salary to a Big Dream: The Journey of Vineeta Singh

Vineeta Singh, one of the judges of Sharks on Shark Tank India, has gained immense popularity and admiration for her entrepreneurial skills and success. She is the co-founder of the popular makeup-skincare brand, Sugar Cosmetics, and is among the most successful women enterprise founders in India. Her story serves as an inspiration to many young entrepreneurs who aspire to follow their passion and achieve their dreams.

Recalling her journey, Vineeta recently shared that she was only 23 years old when she moved from Delhi to Mumbai, the ‘maximum city.’ During a conversation with Pinkvilla, she talked about her struggles during the initial months of shifting to a new city and starting her first startup. She had to figure out a way to live independently, including renting a house and getting help with a meager salary of ₹10,000, which eventually grew to ₹50,000, which seemed like a luxury.

Vineeta moved to Mumbai in July, which she called the worst time to move as the next few months are monsoon season, causing seepage in the house and difficulty in getting a rickshaw. She recalled getting rejected by 100 rickshaw drivers before getting one. However, she fell in love with the City of Dreams as she could stay out late with friends and roam around at 3-4 am without worrying about her safety, unlike in Delhi.

Vineeta’s entrepreneurial journey began with her first startup, where she faced many difficulties and failed multiple times before learning from them. In 2015, she and Kaushik Mukherjee co-founded Sugar Cosmetics, an online-only company. Millennials, who were searching for reasonably priced, high-quality makeup products, gave the brand a huge boost in popularity. With a devoted following of customers, Sugar Cosmetics is now offered in more than 2000 stores throughout India.

Vineeta has assisted aspiring business owners in transforming their ideas into profitable enterprises by sharing her knowledge and experience as a judge on Shark Tank India. Anupam Mittal, Peyush Bansal, Namita Thapar, Aman Gupta, and Amit Jain, who took Ashneer Grover’s place after the first season, are among the other successful businesspeople who appear in Shark Tank India Season 2.
